Methodology
In this white paper, we mobilize a meta-study approach wherein we cast a large net and survey published academic research on the insights, studies, use cases, and prototypes of incorporating Virtual Reality (VR), Augmented Reality (AR), Mixed Reality (MR), and spatial computing technologies in the aviation industry.
We limited our searches to the last decade in order to capture the most recent developments and our findings range from the uses of these technologies in pilot training to military training, from maintenance to air traffic control, and more.
We provide short summaries of highlighted research as well as distill and list key findings out of them. We prioritize research with participants from the industry, however, we also include theoretical, and proof-of-concept works when possible.
